Borland Management Team to Present Strategy for Execution, Expansion and Effectiveness at 2004 Analyst Day

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Sep 09, 2004 : Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ NM: BORL), a worldwide leader in platform-independent software development and deployment solutions, today announced its management team will present Borland’s corporate strategy and go-to-market plan at its annual analyst day, September 14, 2004, in San Jose, California.

The management team brings to Borland significant experience in enterprise information technology, having held executive positions in such leading companies as BEA Systems, Cadence Design Systems, EDS, McKinsey Consulting, NEC, Oracle and webMethods.

Corporate

  • Dale Fuller, president and chief executive officer of Borland since 1999, is a leader with over 20 years of management, marketing and business development experience within the technology industry. Prior to joining Borland, Fuller served as president and chief executive officer of WhoWhere? Inc., an Internet community site acquired by Lycos in 1998. Fuller has also held senior business unit and manufacturing positions at Apple Computer and NEC Technologies.
  • Scott Arnold, executive vice president and chief operating officer, is responsible for shaping the company's business strategy and directing worldwide business operations, marketing and product development for Borland. Arnold joined Borland in November 2003 after 15 years in management and corporate strategy at McKinsey & Company, where he helped found and build the organization's Silicon Valley office and Global High Tech and Telecom practices.
  • Kenneth Hahn, senior vice president and chief financial officer, is responsible for worldwide financial, accounting and investor relations services. Hahn joined Borland in 2002 from Extensity, Inc., where he held the position of senior vice president, chief financial officer and secretary. At Extensity, Hahn built the company's financial systems and control processes, and led the company's IPO in January 2000. Prior to Extensity, Hahn held positions at Boston Consulting Group and PricewaterhouseCoopers L.L.P.

Sales & Marketing

  • Rick Jackson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, is responsible for worldwide marketing activities at Borland. Jackson is the newest member of the management team, joining Borland in August 2004. Jackson comes to Borland from BEA Systems where he was senior vice president responsible for worldwide marketing. He brings over 20 years of software industry experience to Borland, having held executive-level positions in marketing, sales and business development.
  • Matthew Thompson, senior vice president of worldwide sales, is responsible for the overall direction of sales activities in 23 countries around the globe. Prior to joining Borland, Thompson held senior executive positions at enterprise software organizations such as Cadence Design Systems and EDS. He brings to Borland more than 21 years of enterprise-level, solution selling experience.

Products & Services

  • Patrick Kerpan, senior vice president and chief technology officer, was named to this position in March 2004 after serving in a vice president and general manager role at Borland. Pat brings with him more than 20 years of software development experience. Kerpan joined Borland in 2002 through the acquisition of Bedouin, Inc, a company he founded. Prior to founding Bedouin, Kerpan held positions at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Swiss Bank Corporation and O'Connor and Associates artificial intelligence group.
  • Boz Elloy, senior vice president of software products, is responsible for all product development, design, engineering and management. Elloy joined Borland in 2002 with over 15 years of experience in the enterprise software space. Prior to joining Borland, Elloy held the position of senior vice president of product development at diCarta, Inc., where he established the company's product plans. Prior to joining diCarta, Elloy held positions at Oracle Corporation, Telecom Australia (Telstra) and government agencies where he was actively involved in design, development, deployment and integration activities.
  • Chris Barbin, senior vice president of worldwide services, joined Borland in April 2004 with over 10 years of enterprise software and consulting experience. At Borland, Barbin is responsible for organizing and leading Borland__apostrophe__s expanding services organization, providing technical support, consulting and education services to Borland customers and partners worldwide. Barbin came to Borland from webMethods, a leading Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and web services infrastructure company where he was the senior vice president of global customer services. Barbin helped to build the services team at webMethods, serving over 1,000 enterprise class customers. Prior to his experiences with webMethods, Barbin was Director of eCommerce at Grainger Consulting Services.
