New Borland and Empirix Relationship Will Help Enterprises Create Better Java™ Applications in Less Time

Waltham, MA and Scotts Valley, Calif. - Jun 28, 2004 : Empirix Inc., the leading provider of integrated testing and monitoring solutions for Web, voice and network applications, and Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq:BORL), a world leader in platform independent software development and deployment solutions, today announced a new relationship intended to help organizations deploy scalable Java™ Web applications in less time and optimize them more effectively. Borland and Empirix will jointly market a combined solution consisting of Empirix™ e-Load®, Empirix's flagship Web application load test solution, and Borland® Optimizeit™ ServerTrace, the J2EE™ performance management solution and test component of the Borland® Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) set.

The combination of Empirix e-Load with Borland Optimizeit ServerTrace creates an attractive solution for customers as e-Load brings performance issues to the surface and Optimizeit ServerTrace captures deep root-cause diagnostics information on all J2EE tiers across clustered or distributed application environments. Optimizeit ServerTrace can pinpoint not only the individual component and method but also the actual line of code in which the problem resides. Through integration with Borland ALM technologies, the Optimizeit ServerTrace diagnostics snapshot allows issues to be validated and corrected at the code level within Borland® JBuilder®, the market leading Java development product. The end result is more precise and faster resolution of performance problems, which leads to higher quality and more scalable applications, reduced development and deployment costs, and a better experience for the users of the application.

"Developers often struggle to track and trace problems back to their root causes deep within Java applications," said Theresa Lanowitz, research director at Gartner Inc. "Integrating load test capabilities and root-cause diagnostics should greatly accelerate the speed of this process by quickly exposing potential problem areas and their sources."

Boz Elloy, senior vice president of software products at Borland, noted that this combined offering should help companies reduce the time it takes to get new, high-quality Java applications into production. "Developers are working under intense time pressure to diagnose and resolve performance issues," said Elloy. "The combination of Empirix e-Load and Optimizeit ServerTrace can enable users to quickly generate their own load tests to uncover potential application problems and resolve them."

According to Joe Alwan, vice president of marketing for the Enterprise Solutions Group at Empirix, the marketing and distribution agreement between Borland and Empirix will help both companies get better performance management tools into the hands of customers and prospects.

"We've combined the most powerful Web application load testing solution on the market with the most comprehensive J2EE performance diagnostics engine – people are paying attention," said Alwan. "We are already seeing customer interest in this joint solution."
