Borland eases outsourcing burden: Borland® StarTeam® 6.0 drives cross-platform management and productivity of distributed IT teams

Software configuration and change management solution offers enhanced security, collaboration and faster time to market

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Mar 31, 2004 : Borland Software Corporation (NASDAQ NM: BORL) today announced Borland® StarTeam® 6.0 for software configuration and change management. As enterprises evaluate the need to outsource development, StarTeam 6.0 is designed to drive broader efficiencies in the management of software development activities across increasingly distributed teams and geographies by reducing the communication issues inherent in development projects that can result in a loss of productivity. StarTeam 6.0 offers the 'management' piece within the Borland Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) cross-platform portfolio of solutions.

Enhanced security

To minimize the administrative burden for large organizations, using Windows® 2000 and Windows Server™ 2003, StarTeam 6.0 supports authentication via the Microsoft Active Directory, an implementation of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). This permits a system administrator to control user authentication for multiple StarTeam server configurations from a single source.

Faster time to market

Distributed teams can often experience disruptive, momentary lapses in network connectivity that impact their productivity. New capabilities in StarTeam 6.0 offer automatic reconnect when lapses in network connectivity occur so that applications do not need to be restarted.

Enhanced diagnostic features further provide targeted tracking of issues necessary to reduce the time needed to resolve problems. New log file options available in StarTeam 6.0 are designed to help users specify the criteria for tracing issues and define the correct actions to take.

Improved cross-platform support:

The StarTeam 6.0 Cross-Platform client also offers users the option to select a preferred look and feel. The subtle differences in the style of controls within different operating systems can frustrate users. The option to change the look of the controls within the Cross-Platform client is designed to allow users to work within a familiar environment.
