SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. and BEVERLY, Mass., - Mar 24, 2004 : Altova Inc. and Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq NM: BORL) today announced that a special 'Borland Edition' of Altova® XMLSPY® 2004 is included with Borland® JBuilder® X Enterprise 1. Both Altova and Borland recognize that XML technologies play an important role in enterprise software development, and that the addition of XML testing and debugging tools to a development solution is helpful in eliminating unpredictable program behavior and speeding software development. This announcement marks the continuation of the relationship between Altova and Borland, combining the industry leading XML development tool with the market leading Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for Java to help advance Java™ and XML software development2.

"Borland is committed to simplifying Java development throughout the application lifecycle and providing enterprise development teams with the solutions they need to create better software, faster," said George Paolini, vice president and general manger of Java solutions at Borland. With the large number of XML technology standards and uses for each one, it is important that enterprise development teams are provided with the tools they need to synchronize their XML documents; increasing their team productivity. By including a special edition of Altova XMLSPY with JBuilder X, Borland is providing its developer community with the tools required for designing, editing and debugging enterprise applications involving XML, XML Schema, XSL/XSLT, SOAP, WSDL and Web Services.

"Altova believes that the next generation of internet software will encompass web services, mobile devices, smart agents, desktops and servers, collaborating seamlessly across the network. At the heart of this solution are XML-based technologies," said Alexander Falk, president and CEO of Altova, Inc. "Borland JBuilder has long been the industry leading Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for Java, and JBuilder X is designed to further enhance developer productivity with powerful new Web application and Java-enabled Web services development tools. We highly recommend Borland JBuilder X to the Altova community of software developers."
