Borland Names Joe Cortale Vice President Eastern Region and Federal Sales

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. - Oct 14, 2003 : Borland Software Corporation (Nasdaq NM: BORL) today announced the promotion of Joe Cortale to vice president of eastern region and federal sales. In addition to overseeing the growth, execution and management of Borland federal sales and marketing endeavors, Cortale will also be responsible for U.S. East Coast management and sales around the Borland application lifecycle management (ALM) solution. Borland ALM is designed to align business needs with software capability.

"Cortale joined Borland in 2002 as vice president of northeast sales, and most recently served as our vice president of federal sales. In this capacity, he has made significant contributions to both the U.S. sales team and to growing the Borland presence in the federal market," said Dale L. Fuller, president and CEO of Borland. "Cortale has been instrumental in the expansion of the designated federal systems team in Reston, Va. These accomplishments, combined with his proven expertise in enterprise software, have made him an important member of our sales team moving forward."

Before joining Borland, Cortale served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Eloquent, a sales effectiveness enterprise software organization. Prior to Eloquent, Cortale held a number of sales management positions at ClickAction, PaperDirect, Inc., Aldus Corporation and Unisys.

Cortale has served on the President's National Steering Committee on Information Technology since 2000.
